José Parlá for Converse (PRODUCT)RED Chuck Taylor All Star

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Today Converse announces the limited-edition José Parlá for Converse (PRODUCT)RED Chuck Taylor All Star shoe launching on World AIDS Day – December 1, 2011. A painter, widely acclaimed in the art world, Parlá’s collaboration with Converse (PRODUCT)RED is designed to help provide awareness for the fight against AIDS in Africa and encourage consumers to become agents of change, turning art into power. A percentage of the net wholesale price of the shoe will go to The Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa.

Using the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe as a canvas, Parlá chose his painting “Ephemeral Pitches, and Notes, Rhythm and Phonetics” to grace the shoe’s upper. A striking work, the painting explores constant changes to urban lifestyle and was inspired by abstract noises, music, rhythms, languages and sounds of cities. Selected by Parlá in recognition of the change that is part of the mission of (RED), the painting’s themes also represent a nod to Parlá’s days of youth wearing Chuck Taylor All Star shoes to play basketball, dance and have fun.

Only 500 of the José Parlá for Converse (PRODUCT)RED Chuck Taylor All Star shoes will be available, beginning on World AIDS Day – December 1, 2011 at Converse First String retailers globally.

Hidden Radio is the simplest of Bluetooth speaker

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

When the market remains flooded with Bluetooth technology, it was only obvious that speakers are a part of the offerings as well. We have seen some hi-tech designs such as the Bluetooth Boom Bench and the Jabra Bluetooth headphone set, but taking a more minimalistic approach to designing, is the newly created Hidden Radio speakers. Appearing to be the simplest of Bluetooth speakers, the designing of the speakers appeal to laggards of the tech world consumers, as well as the industrial designers, in search of technology and designing combined.

Designed by the industrial designing duo of John Van Den and Vitor Santa Maria, the hidden radio speakers will capitalize on the concept of intuitive technology to help operate them. With a single turn of the outer cap, one turns on the radio and with each higher lift of the cap, the volume increases along with. This would be the primary step towards making something user-friendly for just about everyone to use. Next is the flexibility of Bluetooth, which helps in integrating one’s iPod, or any other Bluetooth storage device to the speakers, wirelessly and listen to content without a messy setup.

What we are later told is that these speakers are not just individual units. They generally will be in numbers, which means one can place them throughout the house or music room, to get a better play of sound output. So if you wish to setup your Bluetooth network for a personal movie theater, or address a small gathering, then using these units could be a fair idea, as they are also equipped to handle 30 hours of usage before recharge, thus allowing more freedom. As for the pricing, a single speaker would cost $119, but on taking a set of 2 units, then $229 would the cost. Likewise, for $449 you’ll get 5 units in your choice of color, including one individually numbered limited edition unit, and for $659, you’ll be the first to receive 7 units in your choice of colors, including a special high gloss white edition.
Also there are color options such as graphite black and metallic silver to choose from, but customers also can get them made in shades of their personal choice, to suit their tastes better. The introductory offer has free global shipping included.

BabyPing turns your iOS device into a baby monitor

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Ok happy new parents, if you feel the need to keep an eye on your baby throughout the night because he/she sleeps in a different room you probably need a baby monitor to do the job. While audio-only monitors have done the job for many years, it looks like they’re about to get a significant upgrade with BabyPing: a combination of your iOS device, a free app and a baby monitor over a WiFi network.

Watch your baby sleep in full color video (640 x 480) over your WiFi network, and hear every noise he/she makes with the built in microphone on the monitor. The monitor also features Smart Filter which cuts out background noise and static normally associated with baby monitors and Constant-Connect acts as a permanent tether between the app and monitor – instantly notifying you when the baby is upset or the connection is broken.

The BabyPing Video Monitor will be available starting February 2012, but you can sign up for notifications on the launch of BabyPing at the official website.

New Prank Pack Boxes Just in time for Christmas!

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

The company behind the Prank Pack is called 30 Watt and it has three new designs that you might want to pick up for gift giving. The new boxes include one for the iDrive that looks like some sort of steering wheel mount for the iPad. The other is the ToeTunes showing speakers for your MP3 player on slippers.

My favorite is the Bathe & Brew. This shows a shower head/coffee maker that mounts in your shower and dispenses your soap too. That is really cool and I bet you can prank more than a few people. If your family is anything like mine these boxes will be floating around the holidays for years to come.

JetMan Yves Rossy Does Aerobatics With Actual Fighter Jets

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Yves Rossy is the world’s only flying man. He attaches himself to a custom-built wing and 4 turbojets, and simply takes to the skies (dropping from a helicopter for now), tilting his body to control his flight path. He’s been making headlines for a while, especially when he first crossed the English channel with his wing, back in 2008. And now he can add another feather to his cap: he’s flown in formation with two L-39C Albatros planes from the Breitling Jet Team, flying at their minimum speed. You can see what it looked like in the video below.

A little on the wing itself. It has a wingspan of 2m and weighs 55kg (121lbs) fully fueled and with smoke solution, 30kg (66lbs) dry. It’s propelled by 4 Jet-Cat P200 turbojet engines, with 22 kilograms thrust each. It has an average speed of 200 km/h (120mph) and a top speed (in descent mode) of 300 km/h (180mph). Finally, the amount of fuel on board lets Yves fly autonomously for 10 minutes. After that, it’s parachute time.
