Gaggenau Motorized Drop Down Oven

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Gaggenau’s products are exceptional pieces of equipment.  They’re designed with not only the cook, but interior decorator in mind.  The Gaggenau 200 Series BL253610 is effectively your standard oven, but instead of a traditional flip down door, a motorized tray lowers with the push of a button.  This insures that the heats stays in (heat rises) and makes loading a snap; no more bending over.  Gaggenau boasts precise temperature control and a feature that allows cooks to monitor the actual interior temperature of the oven, something called “thermo-test”.  Other features include auto shutoff, a self-cleaning mode and a built-in air cleaning system so grease doesn’t collect on top of your fridge.

The only caveat to this unique cooking apparatus is that it costs $3,999.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is now worth $18 billion

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Should we really be surprised with this bit of news? Forbes magazine has increased Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth by another $6 billion. That makes Zuckerberg the third richest guy in technology. He does trail behind Microsoft’s Bill Gates and Oracle’s Larry Ellision. If we are really comparing it also means that he is richer than Steve Jobs of Apple and Google’s Larry Page and Sergey Brin. This new valuation was on the basis of investment made by GSV Capital. They bought 225,000 shares of Facebook at a price of $29.28 per share. Since that news broke out, GSV stock has gone up by 40%. As of today Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth was set at $18 billion. Of course, this whole fortune is on paper only and the real value of Facebook will be known only after it goes public. Still, great going Zuckerberg!

Star Wars: The Blueprints

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

While there have been many books over the years that contained blueprints of the fictional ships and weaponry in the Star Wars universe, this is the first to include the original blueprints used for the creation of the sets and props of all six films. Pulled from the Lucasfilm Archives, the blueprints are accompanied by commentary from author J. W. Rinzler and provide an in-depth look at the art and science behind the filming and post-production of the epic sci-fi series.

Most importantly, Blueprints shows how in bringing this extraordinary epic to life, the world of special effects as we know it was born. For the first time, here you will see the initial concepts behind such iconic Star Wars scenes as the Rebel blockade runner hallways, the bridge of General Grievous’s flagship, the interior of the fastest “hunk of junk” in the Galaxy, and Jabba the Hutt’s palace. Never before seen craftsmanship and artistry is evident whether floating on the Death Star, escaping on a speeder bike, or exploring the Tatooine Homestead.

Star Wars: The Blueprints will only be available in a limited edition, hand-numbered run of 5,000 copies. The first 125 are signed by the Academy-Award winning Art Directors for the original Star Wars film: Norman Reynolds, Les Dilley and set dresser Roger Christian, and will set you back a cool grand. While the remaining 4,875 copies are just $500 each.

‘NU-OVO’ – A personal egg-shaped cocoon for book lovers

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

For the serious readers who are always in search of solitude to engage them in some stern reading, Turin Paul Maldotti has come up with an innovative design called Nu-OVO for a well-known company called Tisettanta.
The pioneering designing is the latest in designs of cabinets and is apt for the serious readers. This piece is a multipurpose storage unit. This book shelf ensures perfect functionality of limited space and provides due privacy for reading, and can be modified for various uses.
This egged-shaped cabinet is divided into eight sections, out of which six are fixed and two are movable. The movable cabinets can rotate and make a complete circle forming an egg-like structure. Each slice is escalated on a metal base and fixed into the floor by eight flexible screw feet. The parts are so adjustable that one can move the whole structure anywhere effortlessly.
The outer body is made of marine plywood that is well treated with oil stain and wax that does not harm the environment at all. The outer
shells are fully removable and interchangeable and are covered with tissues and membranes. We have not heard about the pricing or availability as yet.
Although it is an innovative and awesome bookshelf, we have reported on some really intelligent and smart furniture like the Cave bookcase that offers an upholstered reading space or an ergonomic bench in the bookshelf that looks more like a recliner, and every piece is a one of its kind.
