The door-to-door approach may have been the best way to reach Avon customers of yesteryear, but those days are gone. That’s even more true for Mark, Avon’s sister brand targeting a younger, trendier audience. Makes perfect sense, then, that Avon recently launched an e-tailing platform that allows its Mark representatives to sell on Facebook.

Using Mark’s new direct-sales widget for online social media, reps for the brand?primarily high-school and college-age girls?can now sell products via the Facebook boutique online. To make that possible, the Mark page features not just the standard “wall” and “info” tabs but also a “shop” tab that lets users browse and purchase products. Customers on the site can search for and make friends with reps in their area, and they can also sign up to be reps themselves. Combining community, marketing and sales, the Facebook boutique can be customized by each representative and used to sell products without ever leaving home. Mark also has a free iPhone application that lets reps view products on their phones rather than page through a traditional paper catalog, StyleList reported. Forthcoming applications will reportedly allow users to create online wish lists and post shopping widgets directly into reps’ blogs.

With more than 350 million users around the globe, there’s no denying the power of Facebook to reach young, tech-savvy consumers.

imote-kid-remote-264x500.jpg

Most parents seem to have good enough sense not to give their kids control of the remote, which lets them make sure they?re only watching suitable programming. Now if you?re the type that wants to give your child a little freedom to watch what they want at an early age, you have to jump through hoops to make sure that they don?t stumble onto bad channels. Or you could just get the iMote.

I have no idea why they felt the need to use the ?i? in the name, but that?s beside the point. The remote has only a handful of buttons, which is all a child needs. You?ve got your power and volume control, along with five channel buttons. You?ll program the five channels to the ones your child watches most, thus assuring they will never see anything inappropriate. If you like to leave your kid alone with the TV for extended periods, it might be worth $30.

AAXA M1 micro-projector: bigger & brighter than pico

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

aaxa_m1_micro_projector_1.jpg

When is a pico-projector not quite a pico-projector?? Why, when it?s a micro-projector of course. Profligate pico producer AAXA have obviously decided that their latest model, the AAXA M1, isn?t quite small enough to fit into the ?tiny? category, but what you lose in pocketability you gain in specifications.? The M1 Micro-Projector has a native SVGA 800 x 600 resolution, 66 lumen brightness from its LED lighting, and a handy remote control. Two models will be on offer, each capable of projecting up to a 100-inch picture.? The entry-level M1 Standard gets a 3.5mm composite video input (complete with a suitable adapter cable), while the M1 Plus adds a 1280 x 960 VGA input (though you?ll obviously only get 800 x 600 max output); both also have 3.5mm headphone jacks and a microUSB port.? Eventually, AAXA say, you?ll be able to use that USB connection to hook up a computer, though right now they?re not providing the necessary drivers.

Otherwise there?s 1GB of onboard storage and an SD card reader, integrated media player app and stereo 1W speakers; the whole thing measures 112 x 105 x 46 mm.? Each model is available for preorder now, priced at $299 for the AAXA M1 Standard and $359 for the AAXA M1 Plus.? They?ll ship on December 21st and January 21st respectively.

Until today, the congenial small espresso machine manufacture, Olympia Express, achieved to maintain itself a highly esteemed reputation among experts of the coffee bean and few well-informed discerning barista, since almost 80 years. However, after the recent acquisition by a German retired banker, it?s the company?s new firm and welcomed aspiration to spread their unique masterpieces, which entirely correspond to the popular myth of Swiss high quality products. Straight on the forefront of their comprehensive range, comes the overhauled version of the Cremina, an impressively elaborated lever-operated espresso machine, which already was chosen ?the best espresso machine in the world? by the New York Times in the mid 60?s, and still proves to be on the top, sip by sip.

Who better to capture the carnal beauty of some of the most stunning women around than Ellen von Unwerth . She has been one of the world’s premier fashion photographers for many years and Taschen is publishing a collection of her photographs. A former model, before stepping behind the lens, she worked in front of it for 10 years and it shows in the sensuality she elicits from her own subjects. Her photos have been featured in the editorial pages of Vogue, Interview and Vanity Fair and she has been hired to create many advertising campaigns for some of the biggest names in fashion from Chanel to Guess and Victoria’s Secret. Her work has also been shown in numerous exhibitions internationally including at MoMA in Queens.

This collector’s edition features sexy photographs of Claudia Schiffer, Kate Moss, Eva Mendes, Lindsay Lohan, and too many more to list. The images are in both black and white as well as color and present a very different impression of women as sensual beings than the stereotypical “men’s” magazine. While the photographs often feature their subjects nude or in lingerie the women are never objectified but rather seem to be expressing some aspect of their own femininity. Many images are previously unpublished and have been part of the photographer’s personal archive for the past 15 years.

The limited edition series of 1,500 numbered and signed copies is a 482 page hardcover book in a clam shell box and retails for $700. Taschen will also be releasing 100 Art Editions which include one of two silver gelatin photographic prints by Ellen von Unwerth and will retail for $1,800 each. Pictured above we see a sample of Ellen Von Unwerth’s work featured in the book, a photograph of Claudia Schiffer, titled: TEDDY London 2006.
