Appstand iPhone Picture Frame

appstand.jpg

I’m proud to say I’ve never bought a digital photo frame as a gift for someone, even though they’re a particularly popular item around the holidays. But I would consider gifting the Appstand, which is nothing more than a cleverly designed picture frame for the iPhone. Using the slideshow option it instantly turns either a 3G or 3GS into a digital photo frame, and thanks to a built-in stand it also makes other apps like alarm clocks even more useful.

When mounted in the frame you still have easy access to all the buttons and ports on the iPhone, and thanks to a price tag of just $16.99 the Appstand comfortably rides the line between novelty gag gift and slightly useful accessory.

When the gigantihugenormous Airbus A380 was still in the prototype and demonstration phase, there were all kinds of wild ideas about what manifestations opulence would get stuffed inside its belly. The interior of the production A380 has been toned down a bit, of course, but that hasn’t stopped Emirates Airlines from including sleeper berths, showers, lounge areas, and wet bars (I say “bars” because there are two on the plane).

USB Insert Is A Novel Idea

Here’s a rather interesting way to market your product. USB Insert has come up with a new way to market your product (which obviously involves USB). The USB key mentioned is going to be very thin, so thin that it can almost be embedded into a normal cardboard flyer paper, and you’ll be able to remove it from the magazine to check out the details. Since it’s going to be attached to a card, the drive can be designed to look like almost anything that can be printed

sendsocial.jpg

Internet users can already send each other real-world gifts and letters without leaving the comfort of their online home. While such applications typically require a physical mailing address for the item’s destination, however, users of UK-based SendSocial can send packages with nothing more than the recipient’s email address or Twitter ID.

To begin, users simply tell SendSocial the Twitter ID or email address of the friend they’d like to surprise with a package. SendSocial then sends a request to the intended recipient to get their approval. Only if that person agrees to accept the delivery does SendSocial get their address details; it does not, however, share that information with the person on the sending end. The sender, meanwhile, is notified that the mailing can proceed, and pays by debit or credit card. He or she can then print a barcoded—but address-free—mailing label to affix to the package, which gets collected and delivered within 5 working days by myHermes, SendSocial’s delivery partner. Pricing ranges from GBP 3.99 to GBP 7.99, depending on package size.

Following its Twitter-based conception, SendSocial is now in beta. It’s currently available only within the UK; however, the company is working on expanding into other areas.

There’s little doubt that taking minutes at a meeting can satisfy the barest demands of posterity. Whether the resulting document can inspire any but the driest of subsequent conversations, however, is another matter entirely.

Bigger Picture is a Danish company that aims to help make meetings, workshops and conferences more effective by capturing what transpires in them visually rather than with words. Specifically, the company’s graphic artists distill the business data, information, knowledge and ideas presented at a meeting and transform it into a powerful visual presentation. The resulting picture can be in various formats—both analogue and digital—and for various purposes, including summarization, presentations or dialogues. Either way, the result can increase the value of the time spent at such events, the company says. Bigger Picture includes Ikea, Novo Nordisk, Kraft and the World Wildlife Fund among its list of clients.

It seems safe to say that companies and organizations will always be on the lookout for better ways to capitalize on the exchange of ideas that meetings are intended to enable.

FedEx SenseAware Lets You Know If Your Package Has Been Abused

Have you ever been sent a package, only to wonder where exactly it is a few days later? Sure, you can look up the tracking number and have the carrier give you an idea. However, that isn’t exactly up-to-the-minute information. It also doesn’t tell you what pitfalls befell your poor package during transit. FedEx has decided to solve these issues by introducing a gadget that will tell you everything about your package during its journey.

Aimed at the medical industry, SenseAware is a device that can be dropped into any package to monitor the transit. During this time it uses an accelerometor, light sensor, cellular transmitter and a GPS receiver to gather data about how the package is treated, whether it was opened and its exact location. You can then log onto the corresponding website and check this information at any time.

Right now the service is too pricey for most people, however the $120 per month fee isn’t too outrageous when you’re shipping out fragile and irreplaceable items like transplant organs. I imagine that the cost will go down over the next few years, and you’ll start to see more businesses take advantage of it.
