Application Makes iPhone Disappear

Friday, May 15th, 2009

 mail-n-walkjpg.jpeg

Email ‘N Walk is an application which makes your iPhone invisible. The reason? To stop moronic, distracted texters from walking into lamp posts.

Fire up the app on your iPhone (this doesn’t work with the iPod Touch) and it overlays a transparent email window over a live view coming in from the camera. Effectively, this lets you look at the screen and compose your masterpiece while simultaneously watching the road ahead. Of course, it won’t work. Anyone who would write e-mail while walking is obviously too self-absorbed to pay attention the world around them. Let them walk under a bus.

Email ‘N Walk is a genuine, non-spoof app and it is available now, free, from the App Store.

Based?where else??in Sweden, I LOVE IKEA is a new online marketplace for consumers looking to buy and sell secondhand IKEA furniture.

Buyers can search by region and city to find items nearby, or by category: bathroom, kitchen, office, etc. Product descriptions include the usual: photo, price and contact details, but are generally brief?after all, buyers can easily find more information in IKEA’s catalogue. Placing ads is free until August 1st. After that, the site will charge sellers a small fee per ad.

On every general classifieds site, from Craigslist to preloved.co.uk, there’s an abundance of secondhand IKEA goods on offer. According to I LOVE IKEA, they’re included in over 20,000 ads per month in newspapers and online marketplaces. And that’s just in Sweden. So it makes sense to create a marketplace dedicated to IKEA’s wares, making it easier for consumers to locate items by name or type. I LOVE IKEA isn’t affiliated with the object of their affection; as they put it, they’re “a tribute to IKEA’s amazing range, and a response to recent developments towards a more sustainable society.” Following its launch in Sweden, I LOVE IKEA aims to expand to the rest of Europe soon.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s rumored $108 million deal with Real Madrid estimated to be the most expensive

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

cristiano-ronaldo-thumb-450x254jpg.jpegLast summer witnessed the signing of agreements between Real Madrid and Manchester United over the transfer of Portuguese star player Cristiano Ronaldo to the Spanish club. This might be a crunch time of recession, but it does not seem to affect the world of soccer. How is that you ask? Well, for the fact that this player known for his amazing footballs tricks and skills is being sold for a staggering $108 million. If this rumor is to be believed, then it would end up being the most expensive signing in the history soccer. It looks like the deal is all set to go through as El Pais, a reputed daily newspaper has published details of a binding contract. It seems that there have been talks with Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendis to bring about a deal to pay the huge transfer fee in blocks over several years. If all goes well after July 1, Cristiano will be making history.

LVMH Invests In Bono’s Clothing Line

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

79731181jpg.jpegThe Wall Street Journal’s sources say that Bono and his wife Ali Hewson may be close to inking a deal to sell a large stake of the Edun fashion line to LVMH. Per the perms of the deal Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy could soon own nearly 50 percent of the eco-conscious fashion line. Edun sells organic cotton fashion manufactured in countries including Peru, Kenya and Uganda.Edun is a for-profit business that was founded in 2005 on the premise of trade versus aid as a means of building sustainable communities. An equity investment by LVMH would allow Edun to expand its reach by having the substantial marketing and production power of the world’s largest luxury-goods firm at its disposal. The investment would be a bit of a shift for LVMH but definitely shows that luxury’s growing move toward the sustainable is more than just a flash in the pan.

So it goes to show how bad the current economic situation has become: a cemetery on Highway 86 in Imperial, California, is in foreclosure! Hope nobody is getting evicted!

Ghetto blasters and better skateboarding were the only cool things to come out of the 80s, so it seems only appropriate to celebrate them both in a ghetto blaster skate deck.
