The latest from the house of Van Geest Design is an 85m superyacht design concept that speaks of crisp contemporary lines and an open air lifestyle. The new yacht will feature four decks, with the transom cut open to the water level for the on-board passengers to relax and enjoy the picturesque beauty. When at anchor, the beach cabin can be used, which can be closed by watertight doors for privacy. The luxury cabin is located on the main deck where the yacht’s owner gets access to a true summer and winter suite. There will be two owner staterooms on the superyacht, with the guest cabins situated aft on the lower deck. The back side of the bridge deck boasts a panoramic lounge and exterior entertaining. The main sunbathing area with a Jacuzzi and dining space can be found on the sundeck. More shots of the new 85m superyacht design concept by Van Geest Design after the jump.

Diesel’s Five On Fifth (NY)

Sick of going to the opening of an envelope new store opening party? The tried and tested formula is safe, uninspiring and obvious. (Eg. celebrity invites, cult dj spins some safe retro tunes and the real consumer is supposed to be inspired by this out pouring of elitism to then visit said store.) Always ready to challenge the status quo, Diesel’s new store on Fifth Avenue in New York took a decidedly different approach at a time when consumer behaviour and creative marketing is not only revered but essential.
dieselwindow.jpg

Titled “Five on Fifth”, the guerrilla marketing campaign for Diesel allows the consumer on the street to witness real life installations in their store windows. Intimate dinner parties that would normally be held behind closed doors were staged in the windows featuring famous New Yorkers. Each night was a different theme (cleverly organised to appeal to a cross section of consumers) with a club night featuring key dj’s like Richie Rich, Kenny Kenny and Patrick McDonald,  a sports night with the key players from the New York Giants and then a Fashion night featuring the girls from Ford Models.

Street teams also gave out free goodies in key spots alongside the intimate window dinners in an attempt to catch the busy eyes of the press who were running with blackberries in hand from Fashion week’s shows to parties. Great stuff Diesel!

When actress Helen Mirren portrays the character Phèdre this summer in a London production of Jean Racine’s tragic play by the same name, it won’t be only attendees at the Royal National Theatre who get to watch. Rather, theatre lovers around the globe will have a chance to see the production on the silver screen at a cinema or arts centre near them.

Through its new NT Live initiative, which kicks off with this summer’s production, the Royal National Theatre will film the Phèdre performance live and in high definition, then broadcast it via satellite to some 50 venues across the UK—for a potential audience of up to 10,000 in a single evening—along with 100 more in the US, Canada and Europe. In addition to the performance itself, remote audiences will be able to watch backstage footage and interviews with artists. In the UK, the National is working with the Picturehouse chain and a range of independent cinemas and arts centres; ticket prices will likely be GBP 10. The National Theatre aims to broadcast three additional productions during its NT Live pilot season, and they’ll be chosen in advance to allow cameras greater freedom; ticket prices will be adjusted accordingly.

Much like the Met’s broadcast efforts, which we covered back in 2007, the NT Live initiative promises to bring live theatre to countless audiences who might not otherwise see it. It’s a sort of democratization of the arts—both financially and geographically—and it’s very likely coming soon to a cineplex near you. Symphony orchestras: you’re up next! ;-)

Wireless Dental Camera

dental_camera.jpg

Even though you faithfully brush your teeth every morning and night, are you really sure your pearly whites and gums are in perfect health? A weekly trip to the dentist would answer those questions, but so would this considerably more affordable wireless dental cam. The toothbrush-shaped device features a 1.3MP camera that transmits the images of your mouth to a 2.4GHz wireless receiver which can be connected to a TV or a PC for closer examination. A set of 6 white LEDs around the lens should provide ample light no matter what time of day you go exploring, but keep in mind the transmission range is limited to about 33 feet. Also, it only comes in a PAL version, so sorry North America, Japan and the rest of the NTSC-only countries.

The Wireless Dental Camera is available from Chinavasion for just over $100.
