No, let’s make him smile even more! You can do that in Photoshop, just make him smilier. Much smilier. You know how William H. Macy is famous for smiling. He’s a smile machine. Don’t look at me like that, just go back to your desk and do it. Do it now.

SIHH 2009 Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Diving Navy SEALs Watch Collection

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

jager-lecoultre-master-compressor-diver-alarm-navy-seals-watch.jpg

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor collection was already strong, but this new line solidifies it as the best diving watch collection Jaeger LeCoultre has ever made.  The new line was just released at SIHH 2009. The alarm version pictured is my favorite, but there is also a GMT chronograph or world timer with depth gauge models available. The alarm is clean looking with only a subtle reminder that a middle ring for the alarm with small arrow hand is there when you need it. It certainly doesn’t get in the way. Further, Jager-LeCoultre has improved the minutes hand on the watch. IT now has an arrow tip, where it used to look too much like the hour hand. The dial and bezel feel like they have the right mix of complexities but also legible flat surfaces, at the same time.

Prices will likely retail from between $10k – $20k.

showTIME Connects Your iPhone To Any TV

showtime.jpg

Did you ever have that relative that cornered you one evening and decided to show you a slideshow of their summer vacation? Thankfully I’ve never had the pleasure of such an occurrence, and with technology moving as it has, it’s probably not going to ever happen. Not with actual slides at least. If you’re the type that loves to show off pictures (or even video) to everyone you meet, you’re going to love this new iPod/iPhone accessory from Scosche.

I don’t usually go around showing of dozens of pictures on my iPhone to friends and family, but if I did, I might look into one of these showTIME adapters. This cable is pretty simple and straight-forward. Just plug one end into your iPhone or iPod and the other goes into the RCA inputs on a TV. You can then control a slideshow of your favorite pics, or even show off a video or two if you like. I can think of a few practical applications for this, but wouldn’t it be more fun to bore your relatives with a 2-hour documentary of a boat trip you took last summer? The showTIME will be available sometime in the near future for around $40.

Bentley Set To Debut Biofueled Supercar at Geneva Motor Show

Classic British luxury automaker Bentley has made it abundantly clear that it intends to bring biofuels to its range as quickly as possible, going so far as to promise that all of its cars will be flex-fuel capable by 2012. To that end, the automaker is planning to launch its first flex-fuel vehicle ever at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March, after which it will be brought to New York in April. Details, understandably enough, remain scarce ahead of the car’s debut, but Bentley has us expecting big things for its new supercar, which is obviously based on the underpinnings of the automaker’s younger Continental range.

Biofuel is a broad term and can mean lots of different things, and in this case we’re expecting to see an ethanol fuel running through the veins of the Continentals twelve-cylinder engine. Engines that are tuned properly to make use of the alcohol fuel’s high octane rating can make lots of power, and Bentley is promising that this new production vehicle will be the firm’s most powerful production machine ever.

Magic Beans

These laser-etched beans grow into plants with inspirational words on them. They won’t let you climb their stalks up to the heavens but they’re still magical in a fun sort of way. Give them to a loved one and by Valentines Day you might be enjoying the fruits of the love “seed” you planted.

NASA Apron for Space Geeks Who Like Cooking

My wife never wears an apron when cooking  for more reasons than I care to explain right now, but this NASA “I Need My Space” apron has me feeling a little confused. It has a cool play on words and it looks pretty good. Probably for those who’s relation needs some new impulses!

Aston Martin is prepping two factory-backed Gulf-liveried works LMP1 to fight for overall finish at 24 Hours of Le Mans. The last time they managed this was 50 years ago. Can they do it again?

Aston Martin will arrive in France for the 86th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in June with two new factory-backed cars. The historic Gulf Oil-liveried blue and orange cars are built upon a Lola chassis and feature the same V12 engine as is used in their successful GT1 DBR9.

Harley-Davidson launches new Iron 883

Most motorcycles are, by definition, luxury items. In the United States, a very small percentage of motorcycle riders use their bikes as daily transportation, instead choosing to take the “cage” for the various day-to-day trips that are a necessary part of life. This being the case, as fewer people have reserves of money left over to spend on discretionary items in a recession, sales of Harley-Davidson’s Big Twin models are suffering.

Enter the new Iron 883, which is based on the Sportster underpinnings and features a fuel-injected 883cc V-twin powerplant. Besides the smaller displacement engine, the rest of the bike mimics the bobbed look of its larger sibling, the Nightster 1200, right down to the blacked-out color palette, front fork gaiters, solo saddle and side-mounted license plate holder. This cost cutting has allowed Harley to place a $7,899 price tag on its Iron 883, neatly undercutting the Nightster by a full $2,000.

Shelby’s amazing Aero EV: 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds, 10 minute recharge

 aero-ev-profile.jpg

Shelby Super Cars’ Aero EV in pursuit of the “world’s fastest production electric car” title. SSC just came clean with the details behind its All-Electric Scalable Powertrain (AESP) producing 1,000 horsepower and 800 lb-ft of torque that rips the Aero EV through 0 to 60 in just 2.5 seconds at a 208mph top speed. Compare that to the Tesla Roadster’s 0-60 in 3.9 seconds (or 3.7 for the 2009 sport model) and you’ll understand all the hubbub, bub. Better yet, the 150-220 mile battery can be refilled in just 10 minutes (Tesla takes 3.5 hours) from a 220V service thanks to what SSC calls its “Charge on the Run” onboard charging system — something that nearly eliminates (or at least minimizes) the need for a battery swapping infrastructure. The first full-scale, pre-production Ultimate Aero EV should be on the streets before June with production deliveries expected in the fourth quarter.
