NEC Eye Favor is High Tech Marketing tool with Face Recognition apps

While not pursuing criminals and thefts, Face Recognition apps has its niche use in advertising. NEC’s new digital signage system presented Eye Flavor, a masterful 46-inch LCD that can read viewers expression, analyze and display the most effective content then store all measurements for marketing use.

The marketing’s best friend combines face recognition digital camera, content delivery controller and software apps to manage the ad content and judge its effectiveness. By analyzing the viewer’s digital image, the Eye Flavor can effectively determine the viewers’ gender, age and how they react to the ad content.

According to Nikkie, the NEC has already put their new tool to work at a commercial facility in Tokyo. The system was set up at the front entrance to measure customer reaction to the ad content, viewers’ time frame, gender, age group and the distance in between them.

Yorozu Universal Speaker Kit turns any object into a music box

I’ve got a nice pair of Eclipse speakers sitting on my desk (plus the sub underneath), which I picked out because they were of great quality and looked pretty good. However, if you don’t mind something a little less classy, or just enjoy turning everyday objects into something more, you’ll enjoy this Yorozu Audio kit.

This kit has a little device which uses vibrations to create sound from almost any object. You’ll get a paper milk carton to start off with, but what you end up using is limited only by your imagination. Granted, not all objects carry sound as well as others, so you’ll probably want to play around with a few  different things. Of course for $80, I’ll stick with my Eclipse set.

The first-ever Aspen Fashion Week, a five-day event celebrating the “Mountain Lifestyle”, has been slated for March 1 – 5. Aspen Fashion Week will serve as “a consumer showcase and industry marketplace for winter sports products,” a fast-growing sector that took in nearly $3 billion last year, organizers note. Combining “the stunning backdrop of the Rockies with Bryant Park glamour,” the week will feature nightly fashion events, in-store presentations, and après-ski soirees. An estimated 15 designers will showcase their Winter 2009/2010 collections to fashion buyers, media, and customers from around the world; full-scale runway productions are slated for the following year. Confirmed sponsors for the inaugural event include W magazine, Veuve Clicquot and the St. Regis Aspen Resort.

360

Adrenaline nuts searching for the latest extreme sport have a new toy, the 360. A recent recipient of a the Red Dot luminary design award, the 360 simulates the mechanics of snowboarding, surfing or skating, using a pair of wheels connected by a flexible, highly adjustable crossbar.

The innovative design places the rider’s feet inside the hole at the center of each orbital wheel. The 360 moves as the rider shifts their body weight forth and back and it can be ridden downhill, using the built-in speed regulation system or freestyle for tricks on obstacles. The thick, off-road wheels permit use on most surfaces, from pavement to grass and gravel.

The 360 was developed by Francesco Sommacal, a graduate of the Faculty of Design and Art at the Free University of Bozen Bolzano. It isn’t yet available on the market, but stay tuned for updates on the 360 site, where you can also see a few videos of it in action.

The Whip – a revolution in Snowboard design

Snowboarding has now well and truly taken a hold on the ski-slopes. But despite the growing popularity of the sport, slicker graphics and better board construction have been the only notable innovations in recent times, with the core design of the snowboard not undergoing any major changes since steel edges were added two decades ago. That’s the argument put forward by Cheetah Ultra Sports, a company that is set to reveal what it calls the most advanced snowboard ever – “The Whip”.

While most direct marketing efforts invite consumers to reply by mail, a full 42 percent of interested recipients prefer to respond online, according to a recent study by the Direct Marketing Association. Rather than send those consumers to a generic landing page—where the likelihood they’ll stay diminishes with every click—new technology from MindFireInc lets companies create a personalized URL and landing page for each and every consumer.

LookWho’sClicking automates the creation and management of direct marketing campaigns using dynamic landing pages, personalized URLs, response tracking and more. Using a company’s campaign mail file, the software first generates and hosts a personalized URL for each recipient—such as JoeSmith.Shoesaver.com, for example—and automates the process of inserting those unique addresses into the mail file for inclusion in each direct mail piece. When Joe Smith visits his personalized URL, he’ll see a personalized VIP Landing Page tailored specifically to him and to the direct mail piece he holds in his hand, with matching design and a welcome message that thanks him by name for visiting. The technology then captures Joe’s activity for additional follow-up and lead generation, all in real time; comprehensive reports display campaign response rates, visitor patterns and detailed lead information. Microsoft, BMW and Nestle are among the 500 companies using the technology, MindFireInc says.

In this era of mass-customization, consumers expect to be addressed in a way that recognizes their individuality, and if it can stroke their gravanity too, then all the better. Something tells us this one will eventually become hygiene!

We haven’t forgotten the Sonic Chair yet and to make sure we don’t do that, the firm has now rolled out a special model that comes with a 20-inch iMac attached to a pivoted hinge. Called the Sonic Chair Touch, the new version has all the input jacks and built-in speakers we saw in the original version. The iMac 20″ touchscreen features a 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB memory and 250GB hard drive, 8 x SuperDrive and ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics. Anyone who gets inside the Sonic Chair enjoys great bass and focused acoustics, thanks to the chair’s noise cancellation technology. No word on pricing for the updated version, but do expect them to ask for a couple of thousand more for the extra iMac.
