FieldCandy Tents Designed To Stand Out

Monday, November 28th, 2011

FieldCandy tents do not give you camouflage protection in the natural setting, nor do they help you blend in with the rest of the crowd at the campsite. FieldCandy tents are designed to stand out. When we saw the first images of these limited-edition designer tents with their cool flysheets, we had to really stop and think. Is it true that no-one else has manufactured these types of tents for sale before? We have seen individual pieces displayed as art, but we had not seen anything quite like this.
It was one of those moments when you think: Why have all tents always looked pretty much the same? We customise everything else, why not tents? And even more remarkably: Why have we been satisfied with those boring, standard tent colours for so long?

So, through a two-year development process, Jersey, UK-based FieldCandy has created what we did not know we needed. Until now. They selected a group of 20 or so artists and designers – photographers, graphic designers, illustrators, branding and advertising designers – to create designs that were then transferred to the ultra-light, waterproof flysheet that covers the two-person tent.

They now offer more than 40 different designs by 18 artists. The designs are grouped in several collections. In The Legend Collection, for example, includes Terry Pastor’s black design with psychedelic guns and Philip Gatward’s blue and yellow parrots on a grey hued background.

On the FieldCandy website, a counter next to each design indicates how many of that design are still left. Each tent comes with a label that shows the edition number and the design name. Prices range from $430 for the black FieldCandy signature tent to over $1,000. FieldCandy ships around the world The tents are available exclusively through the website.

Tipping Teacup Is Smartly Designed

Friday, November 25th, 2011

This teacup has an unusual angled bottom that allows it to rest in two different positions. On one side is a screened compartment in which you place your favorite loose tea leaves. Pour hot water through the screen and allow it to steep. Once it’s done, simply tip the cup in the other direction, lifting the leaves up out of the water. The cup’s large size is perfect for cradling between your hands as you enjoy the warmth of your drink. Screen is removable for simple clean-up.

One cup holds 6 oz. and though it’s made out of plastic, it is not dishwasher safe. It comes in black or white and is $20.

EAMES ALUMINUM LOUNGE CHAIR

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

It’s always a little scary when someone sets out to update an undeniable classic, but in this case, we think it turned out okay. First introduced in 1958, the Eames Aluminum Lounge Chair ($1,600-$2,350) recently got a slight refresh, as it’s now available with a graphite or white powder-coated frame and white or black Spinneybeck Vicenza leather upholstery. Otherwise, it’s still sporting the same sleek design, four-star base, and sling seat that’s made it an icon of design.

360 degrees rotating Cocoon Aeris hanging fireplace, for a perfect house warming

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

When one spends the extra wad of cash to get the modern design up market home, it won’t be a farfetched conclusion that most of them are also likely to spend a bit more to get the matching fixtures and fittings. Add to that the modern day inclination towards eco-friendly solutions, and you have Lian Fireplace, Calspas FRP4300, and the Swarovski studded LHD50SS. Joining this league is the Cocoon Aeris hanging fireplace, that would help you warm up your place all round during the chilly months.
When we compare the other models we mentioned, we do come across a restriction of having a flexible and rather immobile fireplace, though very aesthetically and technologically advanced. The Cocoon Aeris hanging fireplace comes as a compact cocoon like structure with an 8-position flexible hanging pole or a wall mounting stand. As per desired height and direction, the stainless steel casing can be moved up or down for the perfectly comfortable height, or turned for the perfect direction. If the hanging designs aren’t what’s right for you, the wall mounted option is there too, which could give the similar flexibilities.
Coming to the next major advantage, is the eco-friendly design of the fireplace. Operating of Ethyl Alcohol (denatured alcohol), there is little or no harmful emission to worry about. Just opening the small 1.5 liter tank at the back, one can refill the bio-fuel, and put the heater on in the desired level of intensity. This would vary the level of heat, and prolongation of the operating time of the fireplace. At a stretch, it can go for about 6 hour’s non-stop, but will vary with the level of adjusted heat. If that wasn’t it, this fireplace can be equally useful during the summers. Instead of using the heating system, the vessel can double up as a chilling tray for champagne or cold beverage bottles without any hassle whatsoever. So, with the winters approaching, those looking to buy a fireplace would do well to spend $4,000 for one of these.

Brighten Up Your Bunker With These Fake Bright Light Blinds

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Made to create the illusion of being in a room with a window, the Bright Blind by Makoto Hirahara uses electroluminescent (EL) sheets on the underside of each slat. The intensity of the light is controlled by changing the angle of these, pretty much as you’d do if these were blinds on an actual window. While it’s not being sold as a treatment for seasonal affective disorder, this might not be such a bad angle for the product to take.

Bunker dwellers interested in the product should know that price information is not public: you have to request this information. Unless one of our readers has already purchased this and wants to enlighten us…
